Universum is has conducted the Student of the Year campaign in six countries for the 8 last years and for the third time in Switzerland. The Student of the Year Awards are first of all handed out to bring motivated students, their ideas, projects and skills to the foreground. The winners are not only gaining a valuable reference for his or her CV, they also get the possibility to network with their possible future employers and to win attractive prices.

To apply for the awards, students had to send their CV together with an essay about one of the following subjects:

  • For the Axpo Energy Vision Award: On their vision of the Swiss energy landscape in 2030
  • For the Baloise Safety Award: On how to make Friday 13th to a day of the safety
  • For the Deloitte Cross-Thinker Award: On why cross-thinking is so important in international companies
  • For the SBB Innovation Award: On a technological innovative project they have implemented.

The winners have been elected in collaboration with Axpo, Baloise, Deloitte and SBB based on the quality of the essays and references of the candidates.

This year’s winners:

  • Axpo Energy Vision Student of the Year – Samuel Pfaffen (ETH Zurich) won an e-bike
  • Baloise Safety Student of the Year - Reto Ziltener (University of St. Gallen) got the possibility to begin an internship at Baloise Group
  • Deloitte Cross-Thinker Student of the Year – Remo Giger (University of St. Gallen) won a weekend for two a in London and the possibility to visit the Deloitte headquarters
  • SBB Innovation Student of the Year - Péter Fankhauser (ETH Zurich) got a General Abonnement travelcard.

We are proud to present the results on May 19th at the Universum Awards in Zurich and will reveal the Ideal Employer rankings. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to attend workshops by experts in the field of employer branding and learn more about current trends. Later in the evening at the gala dinner (free of charge for Universum clients and partners) the Ideal Employers of Swiss students will be awarded. The research team at Universum is currently analysing the answers of the 6,500 students that participated in the Swiss Universum Student Survey 2009 and will ensure that the delivery of the reports, with recent key findings, will be delivered to clients on time.

The marketing and support team is currently finalising the arrangements for the seminars and the gala dinner.
“This year we are happy to be able to offer an exceptional seminar program” says Nelly Riggenbach, Country Manager Switzerland. “Both Swiss speakers from Syngenta and HSG as well as international experts from Credit Suisse and IBM will share their knowledge and experience within employer branding and HR.”

Four workshops focusing on leadership and employee branding will give participants insights on theories and best practices of leading companies.

The exciting part of the event starts in the evening when the Ideal Employers from the Swiss Student Survey will be awarded during a gala dinner at the unique location of “Die Giesserei”.
“We’ll not only be awarding the companies ranked at the top by business, engineering, IT and natural science students” says Roger Manfredsson, Director Europe (DACH) at Universum.  “Be prepared, we’ll also be revealing industry winners and will be giving out some special prizes awarded this year by a Universum jury.”
